Which database program to use?

Lately I have been updating customers’ databases and discussing with them their individual needs for setting up their own database program.  With so many database software programs in the market, its important to take into account the following considerations:

• Costs, running costs, customer service.
• What are the pros/cons of this program – short term/long term.
• How efficient is the database administrator of the program. Will he/she be able to understand how it works, update it and be able to resolve any problems.
• Compatibililty of the program with computer system/other applications.
• Reporting tools.

I am experienced with many database programs including Excel, Access, Act, Accware, Filemaker, Drupal, SummitPro, etc.
