Greetings from the Transcription world, where recordings of every kind are converted quickly and accurately.
Ever thought about transcribing an audio recording? Press the recorder ‘Play’ listen for a few seconds, press ‘Stop’ and start typing, then press ‘Play’ again or ‘Rewind’ if you didn’t get it the first time. How long does that take you? You could try out a 5 minute recording and it could take you anywhere upto an hour (if you are not an experienced typist)!
For me – an experienced transcriptionist who is transcribing day in and day out – a 5 minute recording could take me around 15 minutes (+/-).
A transcriptionist has to have a wide vocabulary to understand any spoken topic under the sun, plus have excellent grammar and punctuation skills.
Accents? I love different accents around the globe – Irish, Afrikaans, Asian, New Zealanders, European and the typical slangs that go with it. A typical day doesn’t go by without my headphones on, listening to all these wonderful voices from around the globe, understanding their issues, laughing when they laugh, sighing when they sigh! I transcribe focus research group interviews, university lectures, seminars, company meetings, confidential interviews. It is typed word for word, exactly as it is spoken with punctuation added for expression to give the reader a better understanding of the speakers.
Not all recordings can be clear. Sometimes the recording is not clear because of background noises in a busy office, factory, workshop, school, etc. I try and get as much as I can of the words spoken in this instant.
For meetings and group recordings where several people can talk at the same time in response to a question asked, each person’s response is typed in – as much as possible.
Audio recordings from 5 minutes to 2-3 hours length of audio are transferred to me by SendThisFile and a typed version is emailed to you within 2-3 days. All queries welcome.
Best regards
Mary Jordon
